Gene Induction Switched on by Novel Cytokine Treatment in Mice

- Sonia Nichols, staff medical writer -- Collaborators at several major research organizations recently announced in the Journal of Immunology that combination interleukin (IL) 12/pulse IL-2 can be used to wreak havoc on tumor cells.

Jon M. Wigginton of the U.S. National Cancer Institute was one of the study's leaders. He and fellow researchers announced that by using genetically transformed mice with mammary carcinoma, they were able to observe the cytokine combination deliver a powerful one-two punch to cancer cells.
