New Gene Therapy Center Announces Successful Treatment With Adult Stem Cells

Tulane University, New Orleans, Louisiana, celebrated the grand opening of its new Center for Gene Therapy, the first in the U.S. dedicated to using adult stem cells for treating diseases, by announcing results of a new therapy that gives hope to thousands who suffer from an incurable, and sometimes fatal, genetic bone disease.

The principal investigator of the study is St. Jude Children's Research Hospital researcher Dr. Edwin Horwitz. The study was based on the scientific discoveries of Dr. Darwin Prockop, director of the Tulane Center For Gene Therapy.
