TNF(alpha) is cytotoxic to tumor cells, however high doses of TNF(alpha) can be damaging to normal tissues. In a previous report, F. Bazzoni and colleagues reported that the M-r 55,000 TNF receptor could induce apoptosis in the absence of TNF(alpha).
