Gene Therapy Doubles Survival Time For Brain Cancer Patients

Ark Therapeutics, Ltd., announced on April 4, 2002, positive results from a Phase I/IIa clinical trial investigating its new gene medicine treatment, EG009, for malignant glioma, an aggressive form of brain cancer.

In the trial, EG009, a combination of a gene and an intravenous therapeutic, was shown to double patient survival time and was well-tolerated.

Malignant glioma is a devastating disease, where the mean patient survival is between five and 10 months and existing treatment regimens are largely ineffective.
