Study Demonstrates Utility of Telomerase Promoter

Geron Corp. (GERN) announced the publication of a study that demonstrates the utility of the human telomerase promoter to drive the preferential expression of therapeutic genes in cancer cells.

The research, described in the April 4, 2001, issue of Gene Therapy, shows that the cloned promoter of the human telomerase reverse transcriptase (hTERT) gene can drive the selective expression of therapeutic genes in cancer cells in vitro and in vivo, while remaining inactive in normal somatic cells and tissues.
