Magnetic Resonance Imaging Detects In Vivo Transduction In Liver

by Deborah W. Heinrich, PhD, staff medical writer - A novel method to detect in vivo transgene expression in the liver has been developed by researchers in the School of Medicine at University of Pennsylvania in Philadelphia.

To assess the efficiency of transduction as well as duration of gene expression after delivery, accurate methods to measure in vivo transgene expression are a must. A. Auricchio and colleagues reported using P-31 magnetic resonance imaging (P-31 MRI) to detect virally mediated gene transfer in the livers of mice. Their method was used in vivo and they suggest that it may be applied in a non-invasive manner.
