"Tumor cells that contaminate hematopoietic cell preparations contribute to the relapse of neuroblastoma patients who receive autologous stem cell rescue as a component of therapy," according to Mary K. Danks and colleagues at St. Jude Children's Research Hospital in Memphis.
Danks and coworkers found that a viral vector can be used to activate a prodrug that eradicates neuroblastoma cells in vitro while sparing healthy stem cells.
