Variability Of Gene Expression Observed In Hepatocellular Carcinoma

by Sonia Nichols, senior medical writer - An Israeli study indicates that contrary to previous reports, there appears to be a great degree of differential gene expression in hepatocellular carcinoma, which may slow down the use of genetic "signatures" for diagnosing and treating patients with such cancers.

Authors of the new study work at the Hadassah University Hospital Goldyne Savad Institute of Gene Therapy in Israel, where they used the Atlas Human Cancer cDNA Expression Array, a test that can analyze the expression of 597 genes, to check for differential gene expression in three patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), a form of primary liver cancer.
