Ovarian Cancer-Specific Promoter Sensitizes Tumors To Cancer Drug

by Sonia Nichols, senior medical writer - Plasmid vectors expressing an ovarian cancer-specific promoter do a better job of directing gene therapy to ovarian tumors than some other vectors do, according to Fox Chase Cancer Center researchers.

The promoter is even more effective when delivered to cancer cells via cationic lipid particles, enhancing the effects of ganciclovir and extending survival in mice, the researchers say.

Rudi Bao and colleagues at the Philadelphia, Pennsylvania cancer center have developed a ovarian tumor-targeted gene therapy composed of a plasmid containing the ovarian specific promoter (pOSP1) and expressing the enzyme herpes...
