University of Tennessee investigators have reported one of the first studies to examine the practicality and effectiveness of delivering gene therapy to prostate cancer tumors using a transrectal route. According to their report, the method represents a strategic way to direct adenoviruses encoded for therapeutic genes into malignant prostate cells although a minimal level of systemic dissemination can be expected.
