Granulomatous lesions in murine model could be used to study new treatments

by Sonia Nichols, senior medical writer - Researchers believe a novel murine model of chronic granulomatous disease could be used for testing promising new gene therapies designed for treating patients with the disease.

The inherited disease is marked by immune system deficiency and the formation of lesions called granulomas that can form throughout the body and beneath the skin.

By using a genetically engineered murine model of X-linked chronic granulomatous disease (X-CGD), investigators have designed a cutaneous model of the disease by injecting the genetically manipulated mice with hyphae from the fungus Aspergillus fumigatus.
