Sex hormones improve liposomal transfection of breast cancer cells

The new finding means sex hormones could enhance the way nonviral vectors deliver gene therapy to malignant tumors in the breast and other areas of the body, according to F. Koster and colleagues, Medical University of Lubeck, Lubeck, Germany.
Koster's group used the breast cancer cell line Sk-Br-3 in its study. "A nontoxic concentration of cyclodextrin-encapsulated sex steroids (5 micromolar) added to lipid or liposomal transfection led to a 12-fold increase of reporter gene expression...
