Older rats regain penile erections after receiving gene therapy

by Sonia Nichols, senior medical writer - Gene therapy has enabled older rats to overcome erectile dysfunction for extended periods of time, according to investigators at the University of California, Los Angeles.

The UCLA team says plasmid and viral vectors encoded for a variant of nitric oxide synthase (NOS), an enzyme responsible for regulating a host of bodily functions, can jumpstart erections in older rats with age-related dysfunction.
