Redirecting targets in kidney cancer would enable therapies to work better

Adenoviral vectors tend to rely on the coxsackie and adenovirus receptor (CAR) for the effective introduction of transgenes into their intended targets. This reliance, however, comes at a cost, for in some tumors, CAR is either absent or insufficiently expressed.

Researchers at the University of Alabama at Birmingham say that CAR is deficient in RCC cell lines, but that they have identified alternative mechanisms that enable adenovirus-based...
