Orchid settles with Saint Louis University, acquires primer extension patent

Orchid BioSciences, Inc., (ORCH) announced that it has settled its patent litigation with Saint Louis University by acquiring U.S. Patent No. 5,846,710 entitled "Method for the Detection of Genetic Diseases and Gene Sequence Variations by Single Nucleotide Primer Extension," from the University.

Financial details of the settlement were not disclosed.

The transferred patent is based on the work of Dr. S. Paul Bajaj, one of the first researchers to develop and patent a method for analyzing single nucleotide polymorphisms, or SNPs.
