This discovery resulted in the reclassification of mda-7 as interleukin-24, or IL-24. Interleukins are a class of proteins that regulate the immune system and have been shown to be integral in controlling cancer. These data were described in oral presentations at the 11th International Conference on Gene Therapy of Cancer, recently held in San Diego, California.
