ONYX-015 is deemed safe for patients with recurrent cancer

by Sonia Nichols, senior medical writer - Researchers at US Oncology of Dallas Texas consider ONYX-015 safe for human patients, based on the results of a pilot study.

"ONYX-015 is an adenovirus that selectively replicates in p53 dysfunctional or mutated malignant cells," said J. Nemunaitis and colleagues in Cancer Gene Therapy.

The trial included ten patients with advanced cancer. Half of the patients were treated with once-weekly 2 x 10¹² particle doses of ONYX-015 in combination with irinotecan (CPT11) and 5-fluorouracil (5FU) for 6 weeks.
