Genomics company awarded grant by the National Human Genome Research Institute

Perlegen Sciences, Inc., announced that it has been awarded a grant by the U.S. National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) to support the International HapMap Project.

With this funding, Perlegen will use next generation Affymetrix high density oligonucleotide array technology to genotype over 2.25 million unique single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in 270 samples from four populations being studied by the HapMap Project.

This represents over 600 million genotypes. Perlegen has been conducting high throughput genotyping at an unprecedented scale, having performed over 1.3 billion genotypes in just the first 6 months of 2004. The grant award...
