FHPG radiotracer uptake does not resemble ganciclovir uptake.

According to published research from the Netherlands, "favorable pharmacokinetics of the prodrug are essential for successful herpes simplex virus thymidine kinase (HSVtk)/ganciclovir (GCV) suicide gene therapy. [¹⁸F]FHPG positron emission tomography (PET) might be a suitable technique to assess the pharmacokinetics of the prodrug GCV noninvasively, provided that [¹⁸F]FHPG mimics the behavior of GCV."
