Cytoskeleton dynamics imaged in mammalian cells

Published in Gene Therapy Weekly, July 20th, 2006

A study from Germany has reported on the imaging of cytoskeleton dynamics in mammalian cells using a monomeric red fluorescent protein (mRFP) variant.

"Fluorescent proteins are versatile tools for live cell imaging studies. In particular, recent progress was achieved in the development of mRFPs that show improved properties in respect to maturation and intracellular fluorescence.

"mRFPmars, a red fluorescent protein designed especially for the use in Diciyostelium, proved to be a brilliant label for different cytoskeletal elements," wrote M. Fischer and colleagues, Technical University of Munich.

"Here we report on the synthesis...
