New legionnaire disease gene therapy study results reported from University of Michigan, Comprehensive Cancer Center

New investigation results, "Regulation of Legionella phagosome maturation and infection through flagellin and host Ipaf," are detailed in a study published in Journal of Biological Chemistry. "Legionella pneumophila is an intracellular bacterium that causes an acute form of pneumonia called Legionnaires' disease. After infection of human macrophages, the Legionella-containing phagosome (LCP) avoids fusion with the lysosome allowing intracellular replication of the bacterium," scientists writing in the Journal of Biological Chemistry report.
