Scientists at University of Pennsylvania report research in gene therapy

Scientists discuss in 'Catalytic inactive heme oxygenase-1 protein regulates its own expression in oxidative stress' new findings in gene therapy. "Heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) catalyzes the degradation of heme and forms antioxidant bile pigments as well as the signaling molecule carbon monoxide. HO-1 is inducible in response to a variety of chemical and physical stress conditions to function as a cytoprotective molecule," scientists writing in the journal Free Radical Biology & Medicine report.
