New Research on Gene Therapy from University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, Department of Physiology Summarized

2011 FEB 3 -- Current study results from the report, 'Delayed dominant-negative TNF gene therapy halts progressive loss of nigral dopaminergic neurons in a rat model of Parkinson's disease,' have been published. According to a study from the United States, "Parkinson's disease (PD) is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder typified by the loss of dopaminergic (DA) neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNpc). Recent evidence indicates that neuroinflammation may play a critical role in the pathogenesis of PD, particularly tumor necrosis factor (TNF)."
