Findings from University of Alberta Provide New Insights into Peptides and Proteins

2012 FEB 2 -- Data detailed in "Actions of ß-amyloid protein on human neurons are expressed through the amylin receptor" have been presented. According to the authors of a study from Edmonton, Canada, "Disruption of neurotoxic effects of amyloid ß protein (Aß) is one of the major, but as yet elusive, goals in the treatment of Alzheimer's disease (AD). The amylin receptor, activated by a pancreatic polypeptide isolated from diabetic patients, is a putative target for the actions of Aß in the brain."
