Studies from Kitasato University have provided new information about adipose tissue

"Hypoxia-inducible factor (HIF) is a heterodimer composed of HIF-alpha and -beta, and to date, three HIF-alpha subunits, HIF-1 alpha, -2 alpha, and -3 alpha, have been identified. Among these HIF-alpha subunits, HIF-1 alpha represses peroxisome proliferator activator gamma 2 gene expression and then inhibits adipogenesis, and HTF-2 alpha is induced during adipose differentiation and functions as a positive regulator of adipogenesis," scientists in Tokyo, Japan report.
