IND application filed for anticancer compound XL999

Exelixis, Inc., (EXEL) has submitted an investigational new drug application (IND) to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) for XL999, a proprietary anticancer compound. Preclinical studies with XL999 have demonstrated potent inhibition in vivo against multiple receptor tyrosine kinases (RTKs) that are implicated in tumor angiogenesis, or the development and maintenance of tumor vasculature. Pending clearance by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the company intends to initiate a phase I clinical trial.
