Studies on the genetics of diabetic peripheral neuropathy reviewed

Studies and data on the genetics of diabetic peripheral neuropathy have been reviewed. "Diabetic neuropathy is a common complication of type 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus. Chronic hyperglycemia and/or insulin deficiency in the peripheral nerve lead to metabolic and vascular disturbances, responsible for the fonctional alterations and the characteristic histological abnormalities observed in the nerve fiber," scientists in France report.
