Gene-based products company expands AAV patent portfolio

Targeted Genetics Corporation (TGEN) announced the issuance of a patent for its AAV (adeno-associated viral) vector technology. The company utilizes AAV vectors to deliver genes into targeted cells to treat or prevent disease. The new patent, entitled "Adeno-Associated Virus Serotype 1 Nucleic Acid Sequences, Vectors and Host Cells Containing Same," covers AAV vectors with sequences from AAV serotype 1. It was issued to the University of Pennsylvania and is exclusively licensed to Targeted Genetics.
