Medullary breast cancer revealed in a subgroup of basal breast cancers

A study from France has reported that gene expression profiling shows medullary breast cancer (MBC) is a subgroup of basal breast cancers. "MBC is a rare but enigmatic pathologic type of breast cancer. Despite features of aggressiveness, MBC is associated with a favorable prognosis. Morphologic diagnosis remains difficult in many cases," wrote F. Bertucci and colleagues, Institut National de la Sante et de la Recherche Medicale.
