Insomnia, sleepiness, and obesity are under strong genetic influence

Twin study shows that insomnia, sleepiness, and obesity are under strong genetic influence.

In a recently published article, scientists in the United States conducted a study "To better understand the relationships of insomnia, sleepiness, and obesity."

N.F. Watson and colleagues at the University of Washington conducted a twin study using "[a] community-based twin registry in Washington State. [They included 1042] monozygotic and 828 dizygotic twin pairs participating in the University of Washington Twin Registry. Twins were, on average, 32 years old; 61% were women, and 19.5% were obese, defined as a body mass index {{>=}}28."
