Aegerion's lead compound reduces LDL by 51% in severe form of hypercholesterolemia

Aegerion Pharmaceuticals, Inc. announced the publication of positive results from a second Phase II clinical trial of its lead cholesterol-lowering compound AEGR-733 in the New England Journal of Medicine.

"The results of this study suggest that microsomal triglyceride transfer protein (MTP) inhibition with AEGR-733 is a highly effective and potentially promising agent to treat these high-risk, hard-to-treat patients, for whom there are few effective treatment options. It may also have applicability in a much broader population of patients - those who are not sufficiently clinically responsive to standard therapy or are intolerant of statins," said Daniel J....
