WellPoint NextRx Pilots Over the Counter Medication Program with Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island

WellPoint NextRx, the nation's largest health plan-owned pharmacy benefit manager (PBM), announced the results of a recently completed pilot program launched for its unaffiliated plan Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island (BCBSRI) for generic over the counter medications. Under the OTC Options Program, BCBSRI members had the option of receiving over the counter medications -- such as the allergy drug Loratadine -- at no charge as an alternative to a prescription medication for a period of one year.
