Thousands of older Illinoisans, many already facing economic hardships, were bracing for more bad news come next week, as key programs and services that allow them to live independently in their communities were expected to receive severe cuts. Those cuts have now been stopped with Governor Blagojevich's move to restore funding -- preventing potential disaster for many older Illinois residents. AARP joined with SEIU, and a broad statewide coalition to ensure the voices of a vulnerable population were heard on this issue.
