Governor's Move to Stop Budget Cuts Good News for Older Illinoisans



September 12th, 2008

Thousands of older Illinoisans, many already facing economic hardships, were bracing for more bad news come next week, as key programs and services that allow them to live independently in their communities were expected to receive severe cuts. Those cuts have now been stopped with Governor Blagojevich's move to restore funding -- preventing potential disaster for many older Illinois residents.

AARP joined with SEIU, and a broad statewide coalition to ensure the voices of a vulnerable population were heard on this issue. Governor Blagojevich heard the call and the concerns and stepped up to the plate to do something about it.
