A.M. Best Downgrades Issuer Credit Rating of South Dakota State Medical Holding Co., Inc.

A.M. Best Co. has downgraded the issuer credit rating to “bb” from “bb+” and affirmed financial strength rating of B (Fair) of South Dakota State Medical Holding Co., Inc. (d/b/a DakotaCare) (Sioux Falls, SD). The outlook for both ratings has been revised to negative from stable. The ratings of DakotaCare reflect its decreased capitalization, which resulted from a significant financial loss in the Medicare Advantage Special Needs Plan.
