Esophageal cancer patients with metal stents developed complications more frequently before chemoradiotherapy

Esophageal cancer patients with self-expanding metal stents developed life-threatening complications more frequently prior to chemoradiotherapy.

According to recent research published in the journal Alimentary Pharmacology & Therapeutics, "Self-expanding metal stents are used routinely to palliate dysphagia due to oesophageal cancer. [The study's aim was] to compare the frequency of life-threatening complications after self-expanding metal stent insertion, depending on whether patients received prior chemoradiotherapy or no treatment."
