American Physicians Capital announces financial strength rating upgrade

American Physicians Capital, Inc., (APCapital, ACAP) announced that A.M. Best Co., the insurance rating organization, has upgraded the financial strength rating to B++ (Very Good) from B+, and the issuer credit rating to "bbb" from "bbb-" for American Physicians Assurance Corp., the company's primary subsidiary.

In addition, A.M. Best also upgraded the issuer credit rating to "bb" from "bb-" for APCapital. A.M. Best affirmed the B+ rating and the "bbb-" issuer credit rating for APSpecialty Insurance Corp. and the B- (Fair) rating and "bb-" issuer credit rating for Insurance Corp. of America (ICA), which is in run-off.
