Latex allergy may create cross-reactive fruit allergies; kiwi is highest risk

Patients with allergy to latex should be warned of possible crossreactivity with some fruits; kiwi, banana, avocado being the greatest risk. "Since the first case reported in 1927, latex allergy has attracted the attention of allergists, including its capacity to crossreact with fruits. To evaluate the frequency of sensitivity to some fruit allergens shown to crossreact with latex, we evaluated 82 patients (43 men, 39 women; aged 18-45 yrs) with latex allergy.
