Ventracor reports on first patient

Medical investigators have provided a progress report on the pilot trial of Ventracor's artificial heart being conducted at the Alfred Hospital in Melbourne. Chief medical investigators Professor Don Esmore and Professor David Kaye said the patient who received the first implant of the VentrAssist left ventricular assist system (LVAS) on June 28 was ready for discharge. The first patient implanted with the VentrAssist has made an excellent early recovery, Esmore said. The Alfred medical team is delighted, he added. When the patient was admitted in June he was very ill with a 13-year history of progressive heart disease. ...
