Antineuronal antibodies versus Ma2 antigen may occur in atypical breast cancer patients, even if the cancer also expresses Ma1 and Ma3; the reaction appears to depend on the host. "A 69-year-old woman presented with cognitive impairment and supranuclear gaze palsy caused by paraneoplastic limbic/brain stem encephalitis associated with atypical medullary breast carcinoma," scientists in Japan report. "The cerebrospinal fluid from the patient harbored an anti-neuronal cell antibody against Ma2 antigen, but not against Ma1 or Ma3 antigen.
