Study finds American women need more education about HPV

American women have wide gaps in knowledge about the virus that causes virtually all cases of cervical cancer, researchers have found.

According to two studies and an editorial in the January 15, 2004, issue of Cancer, published online December 1, 2003 via Wiley InterScience (www.interscience.wiley.com/cancer), those knowledge gaps impair women's ability to make good choices about cervical cancer screening and make it harder to cope with a positive test for the virus, known as human papillomavirus (HPV).
