According to a study from Australia and the United States, "TIM9 has been identified as an additional novel gene required for the petite-positive phenotype in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. tim9-1 was obtained through a screen for respiratory-deficient strains that are unable to survive in the absence of mitochondrial DNA. A point mutation found in the tim9-1 coding region converts codon 71 from Gly to Arg."
