Fiber and water help holiday travelers' digestive health

Holiday travelers, particularly women, often become constipated due to insufficient dietary fiber, dehydration, and nonroutine foods and schedules.

But registered dietitian Suzanne Hensen, MS, RD, at the University of Alabama at Birmingham says it's easy to improve women travelers' digestive health.

"First, prepare your body before the trip by increasing water intake, and also, slowly, your fiber intake. Then - since fast foods, hotel breakfasts, and rich vacation cuisine often don't provide enough dietary fiber - work in more fiber by packing quick snacks and breakfasts such as peanut butter sandwiches on whole-wheat bread, snack packs of melba...
