Dalteparin doesn't influence lupus anticoagulant test results

Dalteparin therapy is unlikely to influence the results of lupus anticoagulant (LA) assays.

"Treatment with unfractionated heparin is known to affect screening tests" for LA, hematologists in Norway explained. "False positive test results are common because confirmatory steps lack sufficient specificity to distinguish between LA and the presence of heparin."

In a recent study, S. Liestol and coauthors at Ullevaal University Hospital sought to determine "if therapeutic levels of low-molecular weight heparin (LMWH) may cause false positive tests for LA or alter the LA test results in LA-positive patients."
