New findings from the United Kingdom and United States describe advances in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. Study 1: Recent research from England has documented the structural consequences of a familial amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (FALS) mutant. "The His-46-Arg (H46R) mutant of human copper-zinc superoxide dismutase (SOD1) is associated with an unusual, slowly progressing form of FALS.
