Drosophila acetylcholine receptor studied, binding of bungarotoxin revealed

According to a recent study from the United States, the Drosophila acetylcholine receptor subunit D alpha 5 is part of an alpha-bungarotoxin binding acetylcholine receptor. "The central nervous system of Drosophila melanogaster contains an alpha-bungarotoxin-binding protein with the properties expected of a nicotinic acetylcholine receptor. This protein was purified 5800-fold from membranes prepared from Drosophila heads," wrote P.P. Wu and colleagues, City University of New York, Hunter College.
