During surgical procedures, IOM is used to continuously assess the functional integrity of a patient's nervous system, identify neural structures in the operative field, and avoid damage to those structures. In this regard, IOM offers protection of neural tissues and organs (brain, spinal cord and peripheral nerves) during surgery.
