Better access to primary care linked to improved care for patients with depression

Better access to primary care is associated with improvement in care for patients with depression, study results show.

Researchers with the HealthPartners Research Foundation, Minneapolis, analyzed data from 6,000 patients with depression receiving care from a large multispecialty medical group.

They found that care is improved when patients have better access to their physician. Furthermore, personal physician continuity appeared to be the mechanism for this improvement in care.
