Characteristics of HIV/AIDS patients admitted to ICU between 1990-2003 have not changed

The characteristics of HIV/AIDS patients admitted to an intensive care unit in Malaga between 1990-2003 have not changed.

In a recent report, researchers in Spain conducted a study to "analyze the characteristics of HIV-infected patients admitted to an Intensive Care Unit (ICU) and to compare them in the prehighly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) and HAART eras.

"All HIV-infected patients who were admitted to the ICU of our hospital between January 1990 and December 2003 were reviewed. Patients were divided into two groups based on whether they were admitted before or after the advent of HAART, the cut-off date being December 31, 1996."
