Electrodiagnostic evaluation could identify patients at risk for neuronal toxicity

Baseline electrodiagnostic evaluation may identify patients with pre-existing peripheral nervous system disorders at risk for additive neuronal toxicity from neurotoxic chemotherapeutic agents such as bortezomib.

According to a study from the United States, "Bortezomib (Velcade), a novel proteasome inhibitor, has shown promise in the treatment of malignancies, including multiple myeloma and non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. Several studies have identified neuropathy as a potentially dose-limiting side effect of treatment with bortezomib.
