Gender Impacts Colorectal Cancer Progression

Physiological differences between men and women may contribute to differential tumor development and progression in colon cancer patients, a study led by researchers at the University of Southern California (USC) suggests. “Taking gender into account when examining the genetic profile of patients may help to those who will benefit from specific chemotherapy treatments,” says principal investigator Heinz-Josef Lenz, M.D., professor of medicine at USC’s Keck School of Medicine. Findings from the study were displayed on Monday, June 4 at the annual meeting of the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) held at McCormick Place in Chicago. ...
